This or that
Splurge or save?
Pick which you’d buy, then read on for our take. 11 comparisons, ranging from ballet flats to work totes.
1/11Ballet Flat
Our pick: Save. Get the Dolce Vita pair if you want a black leather flat for workdays and errands. Pick STAUD only if the feel of soft nappa leather is your top priority. See both
2/11Slouchy Hobo
Our pick: Splurge. Grain leather is generally easier to care for than suede, so the COACH bag is the one to buy if you carry a hobo every day. Choose the Quince if you love the texture of suede and will carry it a few times a week. See both
3/11Penny Loafer
Our pick: Save. The Madison gets you a leather lined penny loafer that looks nearly identical, so it is the smart buy for most people. Go for Tory Burch if the scalloped trim and the Double T are what you love. See both
4/11Work Tote
Our pick: Save. The Quince tote has more built in organization and a full lining, which makes it the better pick for most commuters. The Perry is worth it if you want the Tory Burch name and those feet on the base. See both
5/11Tall Boot
Our pick: Splurge. A tall leather boot gets worn hard all fall and winter, so the vachetta leather Goldy is the better place to spend. Pick the Fuego if you want the look without the investment. See both
6/11Chain Crossbody
Our pick: Splurge. The leather Tabby has more pockets and two ways to wear it, so it earns its place if you will carry it often. The Larisal is a fine choice for nights out when you only need the basics. See both
7/11Ankle Boot
Our pick: Splurge. Leather inside and out makes the Mulberry the better long term buy for a boot you will wear most days from fall into spring. Pick Zara if you want to test the shape before committing. See both
8/11Gathered Clutch
Our pick: Save. The Naomi does double duty as a clutch and a crossbody, so it is the smarter buy for most evenings out. Choose the Corrine if you want suede and that gold ring detail. See both
9/11Kitten Heel Slingback
Our pick: Save. From across a room these two look like twins, so the Kathy is an easy save for work and weddings. Spend on the Vince only if you want the sculpted heel and all leather build. See both
10/11Retro White Sneaker
Our pick: Save. The Notice gives you a leather sneaker with the same retro look, so it is the pick for most closets. The Vince is for anyone who wants the slimmer profile and contrast trim. See both
11/11Backless Loafer
Our pick: Splurge. A shoe that molds to your foot is worth the money when you slip it on every day, so the Tevin wins this one. Keep the Rafe in mind as a backup pair for travel. See both

How StyleEditions works
You want to get dressed, not spend another hour browsing.
01
Whole outfits, piece by piece
StyleEditions combines pieces on each board to form an entire outfit: garment, shoes and accessories. When you see an item you love, click on it and you’ll be taken to the piece on that store’s site.
02
Dozens of stores, one list
StyleEditions selects the prettiest pieces from over 20 stores you know and love. Rest assured that all outbound links are checked.
03
The clothes, front and center
We crop out the faces because when you’re envisioning that pair of pants in your wardrobe you’re thinking of color and fabric and how it would fit.
04
A format for how you shop

Getting dressed, made simple
StyleEditions was started to help answer a very specific, every morning sort of wardrobe conundrum, that mysterious inability to figure out what to wear. Chances are, you have perfectly good, lovely things in your closet; it's just that for some inexplicable reason you can't envision how to wear them together. And you wonder if there's one item, if you just found the perfect one item, that would somehow open up your wardrobe to endless styling possibilities.
Our ensembles are inspired by everyday dressing scenarios: what to wear to the office, on casual Friday, Thanksgiving, Christmas morning, on a first date, a wedding (that's not yours), on the coldest day of the year (you need to be toasty and look great). Each one leans on items that will go well with pieces already in your closet so that, say, the item you did splurge on in our outfit will actually wear well with a dozen different ensembles already hanging in your closet. We make each item easy to find with descriptive captions and links.
Shoppers use StyleEditions in different ways. Some will love recreating our ensembles. Some will like to skim our best-of shopping lists. And still others will want someone to settle the dilemma about splurge versus save. Whatever your personal shopping style, StyleEditions features outfit boards, shopping lists, buyer's guides, capsule closet ideas and helpful checklists, all written in plain English and all weeded for gems before hitting the StyleEditions site.
Questions we hear a lot
What is StyleEditions?
StyleEditions features full outfits for women and men as well as edits (shoppable lists of items) all centered around a particular style need or theme.
How do the outfit boards work?
Outfit boards feature four items that work well together: typically a top, a pair of bottoms, shoes and a complementary item (accessory) like a bag or a scarf. Tap on any item in an outfit board to be taken directly to that item on the store’s website in a new window. You’ll also find a quick note about the outfit, how we put it together and where you could wear it.
Why are there no prices on the site?
Instead of featuring item prices, each product comes with a Shop button which takes you directly to that item where you’ll see the current price along with any color or size options available. Prices change very frequently so by featuring a Shop button, this ensures that you’ll always see up to the minute price information at any retailer.
Where do the products come from?
StyleEditions shops more than twenty retailers including Everlane, Quince, Boden, Banana Republic, Barbour, Steve Madden, Tory Burch, Bonobos and so much more. We double-check that all item links are working properly before each post goes live and use images of the exact items and color featured on StyleEditions. We’re always looking to feature items that are readily available to purchase so if an item happens to sell out, we’ll do our best to find a similar style to replace it.
Do you cover men's style?
Men are getting so much love here at StyleEditions with complete coverage just like the ladies: think outfits featuring sweaters (with video of each outfit in the sweater guide for men), business casual, date night, winter layering, weddings, boots and so much more. We even have a capsule wardrobe just for men to help you through outfit dilemmas.
What is a capsule wardrobe, and where should I start?
Capsule wardrobes feature a select number of items that work together in various combinations to create lots of outfits. For instance in our 15 piece capsule wardrobe you’ll see 24 outfits featured using only 15 items. Use our capsule checklist to check off each item that you already have (the checklist stays saved on your device). The hope here is that you can use the checklist to note the items you already have in your wardrobe and shop over time for items you still need.
